What We Are — and What We Are Not

Why This Project Exists

Hair restoration is one of the least transparent medical markets in the world. The exact same procedure — a 3,000-graft FUE transplant — is sold for $2,800 in one country and $22,000 in another, often with no clear explanation of what drives the difference. Patients are quoted graft counts that vary by thousands between clinics, and pricing is routinely hidden behind "contact us" forms.

HairCostCalculator.com was built to change that. We are a data-driven project with one goal: giving patients a realistic, evidence-based starting point — how many grafts they actually need, and what a fair price looks like in every major destination — before they ever talk to a clinic.

What We Are — and What We Are Not

We are a free estimation and comparison tool. Our calculator produces graft and cost estimates using an algorithm built on published clinical literature, and our price tables track average costs across 18 countries.

We are not a clinic. We do not perform surgery, employ surgeons, or provide medical diagnoses. Our estimates are a planning tool — a well-informed starting point, not a surgical plan. Final graft counts and candidacy can only be determined by a qualified surgeon after a clinical assessment of donor density, scalp laxity, and hair characteristics.

How Our Estimates Are Calculated

Our estimation logic is informed by peer-reviewed research on follicular unit distribution, donor area mathematics, and clinical density standards — including mathematical models published in NCBI, PubMed, and Springer journals. The algorithm accounts for Norwood stage, age, hair texture, shaft caliber, and hair loss progression.

We deliberately provide graft ranges rather than single numbers, because scalp size, donor capacity, and progression rate genuinely vary between individuals — any tool claiming a single exact number is overstating its precision.

Where Our Price Data Comes From

Our country-level cost averages are compiled from publicly listed clinic prices, package offers, and patient-reported quotes across each market, and are reviewed and updated on a regular basis. Prices shown are national averages for a standard 3,000-graft procedure; individual clinics may charge more or less depending on reputation, technique, and what the package includes.

How We Make Money

Transparency applies to us, too. HairCostCalculator.com is free for users and always will be. We are compensated through commissions earned when users choose to book a procedure with our vetted partner clinics in Turkey and other countries that meet our standards — this is how the project sustains itself. Two things this does not change:

Your contact details are only shared with a partner clinic if you explicitly submit them through our form, exactly as stated at the point of submission. We never sell data to third parties.

The Transparency Index

Our commitment to transparency isn't just a value — it's a product. The Transparency Index is our own framework for scoring how openly hair transplant clinics and destinations disclose the things patients actually need to know: real pricing, what's included in a package, surgeon involvement, technique, and accreditation.

We built the Index because the biggest risk patients face isn't choosing the "wrong" country — it's choosing a clinic that hides its true price, inflates graft counts, or obscures who is actually performing the surgery. Rather than simply telling users where to go, we give them a consistent, published standard to judge any clinic against.

The Index scores each clinic/destination on criteria such as price disclosure, package clarity, surgeon transparency, and accreditation. Scores are updated regularly and the full methodology is public — including how we weight each factor.

This is also why we hold ourselves to the same standard: the "How We Make Money" section above exists because a project that ranks others on transparency has no business hiding its own model.
